5 Timeless Pieces of Advice for New Coaches

A couple weeks ago, a lady who graduated a coaching school a couple months ago, asked me for advice on getting started. While responding, I realized this could be a great article, so here we are.

Even though it’s really hard to give such general advice, there are a few timeless things to consider for coaches and anyone starting a creative business online.

1. Practice. Practice. Practice.

You’ve probably heard this a thousand times, but there’s no better teacher than failure. You need to practice in order to integrate what you’ve learned in school and make coaching your second nature.

Fail fast.

You do that by asking lower prices in order to reach more people right at the beginning, but don’t work with anyone that you’re not at least a 7 confident that you can help (on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the highest).

Take notes and time will help you improve. Think about how you can improve after each new session and keep a journal of your progress and all the lessons that you’ve learned. It’s this kind of discipline that will take you higher than you can possibly imagine.

2. Have a clear idea on who do you want to serve.

Yes, I left “clear” there on purpose because there’s always more clarity and if you don’t start until you are perfectly clear, you will lose a ton of opportunities to practice (see advice #1).

Many experts & courses stress the idea of finding your ideal client, and while that it’s indeed very important, you can’t afford to get stuck in perfectionism trying to figure your perfect client from the beginning so that you never have to do this again or so that you don’t lose months or even years of work targeting the “wrong” people.

#UglyTruth: your ideal client avatar will change a lot in the beginning stages of your business. There’s no way in the world to know exactly who your ideal client is until you’ve worked with at least a half-dozen clients.

Your main goal now is to practice and sort the pieces of the puzzle as you go.

You can join my free video course for novice coaches where I share more secrets about this topic.

3. Content is still KING.

No matter how much the Internet will change over the years, one thing will be constant: if you want people to trust you and establish yourself as an expert, you need to provide value.

How do you provide value it’s really up to you. Some people feel comfortable writing, some by shooting videos and others podcasting.

Don’t underestimate the power of value that you offer for free. I remember Ramit Sethi once saying that offering amazing value for free (through ebooks, free courses, challenges, articles, videos, etc.) will leave your audience wondering about how great your paid stuff really is.

4. You’re not alone in this.

You don’t have to do it all by yourself. Ask for help, join communities of people who are on the same journey as you and struggle with pretty much the same fears that you do.

Together we are stronger.

Even so, the best thing you can do for your mental health and business, is to hire a business coach. Don’t underestimate the power of working with someone who’s at a higher level than you because it’s less about the information that you get access to, and more about surrounding yourself with that person’s energy and network.

Here are three great Facebook Groups: Step into the Spotlight, Community for Early-Stage Coaches, Next-Level Coaches.

5. Get a professional website.

Yes, you can earn a living from coaching without a website, but please stop for a minute and imagine how many people you could be impacting with a website.

Without one, you can only impact your 1:1 clients, which is amazing, but how would you feel if your work could impact tens, hundreds and even thousands of people each month through your articles, videos, courses, ebooks etc.

A website is worth having even without considering all the new doors that it opens for you to scale your business, make more money & new connections.

Not to mention that when you have a website, people perceive you differently. We can’t hide that the following statement is true “if you’re not online, you don’t exist”. Having a website gives you more confidence and helps you build trust with potential clients.

When the time comes, a potential client will, most often than not, choose the coach with a website.

For most of you, the whole idea of creating a website might be overwhelming, but it’s really not that hard and it’s getting easier and easier every day. You have two options: hire a professional to create a website for you or create it yourself (there are countless tutorials on Youtube).

Timeless website tip: choose WordPress.org as a platform.

Remember, time is on your side. Greatness takes time and that’s okay, because we’re in this for the long run.

The Bathtub Was My Office For The Past 4 Months #MotivationMonday

My Bathtub = Office For The Past 4 Months #MondayMotivation

Did you know…that 35% of my work was done from the bathtub (in the past 4 months)?

Whaaaat?!?!

Let’s back up a little. I’ve been having eye pain for a year, on and off, but since October 2016 my eyes hurt every day for about 80% of the day and no eye doctor could figure out why.

Meanwhile, I’ve found out that it’s because of candida overgrowth which led to colon and liver problems (and of course, also because emotional pain that I needed to deal with). I am getting better and better, but because the health issue is about 10 years old, it takes a while.

Hot water relaxes my body and my eyes and I can work, sometimes for 20min other times for 120min.

From my bathtub, I was able to finish a free video course for new coaches and to put together a new service where I create websites for coaches. And I’ve even created half of my clients’ website from the bathtub.

A lot of the landing pages, email automation, ideas, copywriting has been written from my bathtub.

#ThisIsNotaPityParty

This only proves that if you want something bad enough, you’ll find ways to make it happen.

Life is not always fair (or at least that’s what we think). When this happens, we have two options: to fight it or accept* it.

*For perfectionists: acceptance doesn’t come easily, it takes months for it to settle in, and even once you get it, it’s not like you can’t lose it again for a few hours or even days.

Are you a perfectionist? Join my 60min free training here.

Once you let go of that rage of “it’s not f$*^ing fair” and of the need to blame someone (especially yourself), you will be able to start living again and you will be able to prove to yourself that you can do much greater things than you ever thought possible.

I didn’t think I can last a month with this pain, yet here I am, 13 months later, still going, stronger than ever. But I am not the same person who started the journey. Not even close.

#EverythingHappensForOurHighestGood

I believe in destiny, I believe that everything happens for a reason.

And it did.

I needed this forced break to heal the past, deal with stuck emotions and trauma,  learn new ways to live my life and ultimately, re-structure my entire thought process so that I can really live the life I’ve always dreamed of.

You see, this happened because of me, but not in a bad-pity-like way, but in the most beautiful way possible.

I wanted to live a full life, I wanted to experience great success, but I couldn’t do that with that body, those thought patterns & beliefs. So the Universe provided me with the path of least resistance to get to my dreams. (#ThankYouAbrahamHicks)

#GratitudeSavedMe

I feel deep gratitude to have found work that gives me so much pleasure that I just can’t stay away from it and this is part of why I am working with new coaches and helping them build their business because I know most of them feel the same kind of gratitude but they sometimes lack the knowledge and support to move forward with their dream.

Gratitude (& my amazing wife) saved me, that’s why I am ending every day with a list of 3+ things that I am grateful for.

There’s always something to be grateful for.

Hope my story has inspired you to start this week on a positive note and move past any problems that you are facing.

Much love.

The Questions That I’ve Asked Eliana

NOTE: these were not the only questions of the interview, but the questions that started the conversation.

  1. What’s your story and why have you decided to go on your own path and become an entrepreneur?
  2. What was your biggest fear when you started on the entrepreneurship path?
  3. How did you overcome that fear? Any book that played an important role, online course, event or did you work with a coach?
  4. What is self-love to you?
  5. How important is self-love for an entrepreneur?
  6. Can loving yourself more have a positive impact on your revenue?
  7. What are some simple self-love practices that any entrepreneur can add to his life?
  8. I used to get mad at myself when I tried to change a thought pattern or behavior. How can I love myself while I am working on kinda upgrading myself and my life?

    Key Lessons and Tweetables

    • “The most dominant fear in my whole awakening of self-love or even entrepreneurship was actually the fear of success”.
    • “To me, self-love is having an awareness, an appreciation and a regard for who you truly are”.
    • “Your business is only an extension of who you are”.
    • “Self-acceptance is not trying to prove the core of you”. – Click To Tweet!
    • “What we’re seeking is our true essence”. – Click To Tweet!
    • “The freedom that we all crave and desire is on the other side of doing the hard work within ourselves”.

I really hope this interview left you more encouraged to be aware of your true self, to always practice self-love and self-care, and to remember that life is a journey of reconnecting with ourselves and finding our true essence.

My goal is for you to always get at least one big idea from these interviews.

I’d love to know what resonated with you the most (in a comment below).

[VIDEO] 12 Signs You Are a Perfectionist Entrepreneur #CurePerfectionism

“Perfectionism is the voice of the oppressor, the enemy of the people. It will keep you cramped and insane your whole life, and it is the main obstacle between you and a shitty first draft.”

    –  Anne Lamott

How do you know if you are a perfectionist?

Watch the video and learn the most common signs of being a perfectionist entrepreneur.

Perfectionism does not give us the chance to connect at all. Why? Having a relationship means having to connect. Connecting means being vulnerable. And being vulnerable is NOT something that perfectionist people (entrepreneurs included) do.

I chose this topic so that I could bring more awareness on the matter that is affecting so many entrepreneurs these days. The problem is that they don’t even know that some of their “issues” are related to perfectionism.

You will be amazed that some of these “issues” are actually tied up to being a perfectionist. From what I see, people believe perfectionism is just about overthinking a project or postponing things until they are perfect, without realizing that it’s much more complex than that.

Here are 12 signs that are probably the most common and big ones, but there are lots of nuances around perfectionism, especially in the entrepreneurial world, to talk about.

You might be a perfectionist if:

    • you procrastinate
    • you are paralyzed by fear of FAILURE
    • you find it very hard to make a decision
    • you care too much about what people think
    • you set unrealistic goals
    • you constantly feel disappointed in yourself
    • you beat yourself up for EVERY mistake
    • you don’t love yourself (see this interview)
    • you expect your life to be a straight line UP
    • it’s super hard for you to accept down times or any sort of negative feelings and situations because it does not align with your “perfect” vision of life
    • you never feel like you are GOOD ENOUGH (why would you, if you’re not perfect?!)
    • you do not know how to celebrate a WIN because, for you, it’s never ENOUGH.

See what 20+ Entrepreneurs answered to the same question “You are a perfectionist if…”!

What if I told you there is a different way that will allow you to enjoy life more? A different way that will allow you to take things less seriously and that will allow your business to GROW because of it?

    Yes, it is possible!

Perfectionism is LEARNED. It’s time to UNLEARN it!

If you’re a perfectionist, I invite you to join the FREE LIVE TRAINING and understand how it affects your business and what you can do about it. You just have to make a decision and be determined.

I promise that your business will never be the same again after this live training.

[VIDEO] 20+ Top Entrepreneurs Answer “You Are A Perfectionist If…” #CurePerfectionism

Super excited to share this little project with you guys because I’ve put my heart and soul into it and I am really proud of the result.

You all know that #perfectionism has kept me stuck for such a long time (and it still does every now and then) and I want to bring more awareness to this issue and help entrepreneurs learn new and more useful ways to deal with perfectionism in business, but also in their day to day lives.

So, I’ve asked 20+ entrepreneurs to complete the following question: “You are a perfectionist if…”

The beauty of this project is that it features smart, even wise answers, but it also features funny ones like the one from John Lee Dumas at minute 01:11.

Because I believe we’re all ONE, we are all part of the same global family and that LOVE governs everything, my goal with this project was to feature as many races as possible. So we have people from all over the world, we have white people, Hispanic, Asians, African Americans.

Are you a perfectionist? Join the Live Training and Learn Why & How It Negatively Impacts Every Aspect of Your Business And What Can You Do About It!

    Timeline

On July 1st, the idea hit me for the first time and I’ve decided to let it sit for a while and see if it feels good even after a few days.

Two weeks later, it was 10PM and I was feeling drained with energy and this project was the only thing I could work on. You can imagine that I’ve worked non stop until 2PM when I finished contacting everyone and had a much clearer idea on what I want from this project and how will it work.

Only on August 17th, I’ve managed to get all the videos from people and being a perfectionist, I was the last one to create my bit.

August 22nd, the final version was ready and I barely resisted the urge to share it before everything else was prepared.

[VIDEO] How To Change Your Limiting Beliefs (The Healthy Way)

“You begin to fly when you let go of self-limiting beliefs and allow your mind and aspirations to rise to greater heights.”

    Brian Tracy

How do you change a limiting BELIEF?

Watch this super easy to understand video and below you have the text version.

You can change a belief by reading a book or attending an event or working with a coach. And, after some time, you will definitely have a BREAKTHROUGH. Even better said, a new connection is created in your brain.

Some believe that is enough. But is it?

The truth is that you are just getting started. Let me explain. In order to experience real, long-lasting change, you need to put in the work. Having a breakthrough is not enough nor does it equal long-lasting change. It’s only the FIRST step!

I remember that I once read something Louise Hay said:

“If you accept a limiting belief, then it will become a truth for you”.

I like to compare it with taking a different road home. If you take the same road home for ten years, you don’t think about it while driving, do you? It becomes your truth.

See also: Stop The BreakThroughs Crap & Understand How Change Really Works!

But if you were to take a different one, you will have to make an EFFORT, right? And not just the first time, but maybe a couple of times (possibly even hundred of times!), until you don’t have to consciously THINK which way you should take to get home. It becomes your second nature. And if you take this NEW road enough times, you will start to forget the OLD one.

“The key to optimum health is to upgrade these unconscious maps and limiting beliefs that have been driving us to a toxic lifestyle and relationships.” (Alberto Villoldo)

It’s the same with beliefs. You need to CONSCIOUSLY think different until it becomes so normal that you hardly have the old belief anymore. But (and there is a big “BUT” coming), you need to allow yourself some TIME. And not just that, you also have to be patient with yourself and love yourself. Whenever you catch yourself using the old belief and accept that it is NORMAL, it’s okay!

“You have the power in the present moment to change limiting beliefs and consciously plant the seeds for the future of your choosing. As you change your mind, you change your experience.” (Serge King)

So, without any judgment, you should patiently begin on working to change your subconscious ideas and limiting beliefs into “real expressions of your authentic self”. This is an idea I got from Sue Thoele.

This is the HEALTHY way of changing a belief.

    Remember to always LOVE yourself!

A Story About Dealing With Perfectionism and Bad Days

Here’s a great quote for every perfectionist out there:

“Birds don’t just fly, they fall down and get up. Nobody learns without getting it wrong.” (Zootopia song by Shakira)

Let’s stop the fear of failure and accept it as part of the journey, which does not have to be a straight line (or perfect) in order to be amazing!

Quote on Perfectionism - Zootopia Soundtrack Shakira

Let me tell you a story about perfectionism in its purest form…

About 5 months ago, my coach told me to draw a graphic of how my emotions should look like in order for me to be happy and satisfied. How should my life look like? How many ups and how many downs can I accept?

But, as a perfectionist, I was like “what downs??? there’s no such thing in my life! In order for me to be happy, everything has to work out perfectly, there are only ups”.

    And guess what I drew?!

A STRAIGHT LINE. (exactly like the one below)

There were no ups, no downs, just pure perfection, without understanding that everywhere in nature there are ups and downs, good times and bad times, positive and negative.

For me, thinking that way was equal to “dreaming big”, to “not limit myself”, but I couldn’t be more wrong.

What does it mean for you to be consistent?

Does it have to happen every day for you to label yourself as being consistent or disciplined?!

What does it mean for you to have a habit? Does it have to be daily?

What if you could be more flexible?!

What if you could accept that being consistent is about doing the same thing (habit or not) over and over again during a long period of time at an interval that YOU decide?!

What if you could accept and label yourself as being consistent by doing one of your habits every two/three days instead of daily?!

What if you could accept that there are times when you feel like doing some habit daily and there are times when you do it only once per week, but if you start in January and you’re still doing the same habit in December (daily or not), you are consistent!

What if you could stop forcing yourself from doing all the things that certain guru’s, authors and thought leaders are telling you that you should do in order to be happy, healthy or successful?!

What if you could start listening to your inner guidance and do what feels right for you?!

Can you accept having a bad day?

I’ve come a long way since that story, but it’s funny how I couldn’t accept that I can have a bad day without beating myself up for not being good enough. I couldn’t accept that in life there are ups and downs and it was unrealistic to believe there can be just ups.

I couldn’t accept that it’s okay for me to feel negative emotions without meaning there’s something wrong with me.

I couldn’t accept that it’s okay to feel tired and skip a day at the gym and that is not the worst thing it can happen.

I couldn’t accept that it’s okay to be sad sometimes without meaning that I will become depressed.

I couldn’t accept that it’s okay to be and do less than perfect.

Believe it or not, but since I’ve started learning how to deal with this perfectionist in me, everything is working better in my life, especially my business which has doubled in the past three months. Try it, there’s nothing to lose!

It’s all about the meaning that we give to the events in our life and I encourage you to take yourself less seriously! Allow yourself to fail and have a bad day because you will see that there can be some pleasure in having a bad day if you LOVE YOURSELF.
